America the Diva

Perhaps we can blame 8 years in which our government has failed us, but I've noticed a diva mentality that's growing mighty strong in America. You know what kind of attitude I'm talking about, right? Where nothing is expected of them, everyone and everything is beneath them. The demands are high, the bitch is strong, and the actual output of quality work in comparison is rather tiny.

I notice it most often right now while working.

For the most part, many of the other employees are divas. They hardly do their jobs. They consume and then destroy their surroundings. And if there's any attempt at correction, they will rebel, get in your face, and tell you just where they think your place is. And how *dare* you suggest what they are doing is wrong. I'm honestly surprised they haven't started doing the snapping and head twists.

But they aren't alone!

There are quite a lot of customers that are divas as well. They call up and blithely ignore any instruction. In fact, it's their money, so they have their own list of demands. They hardly care there are others who've called before them and have made often similarly selfish instructions. Why are you telling me it will be an hour? What do you mean I have to pay for delivery? And good heavens, don't try to tell them no or that something just isn't possible. It will destroy their world and they'll make sure you know it!

And since both sides are very equally represented in just the world I'm living in, I can only imagine there are divas populating all of America. People who want everything and are willing to give so very little of themselves to obtain. They are Democrats. They are Republicans. They are rich elite snobs and poor trashy slobs.

They show this while driving. I don't care my lane is ending, I'll ride in it until I can demand yours.

They show this while going to the movies. I don't care that the movie is playing, I want to take my phone call now.

They show this while running the country. I don't care that Iraq was no threat to the United States, I'm invading anyway. --OR-- I don't care that Health Care costs money, I'm taking some from these other people and providing it to others anyway.

I've heard that America is turning into a Victim Society. Everyone is a victim. Such and such never would have happened if not for blah blah. But I think this is just another instance where really America is full of divas. Nothing is your fault. You aren't to blame. Just keep taking what you want and imposing your will and your demands on others.

Responsibility for your own actions.
Thoughtfulness to those around you.
These are changes I want to believe in.

Yep, the America I of my adulthood is definitely not the America I grew up in.

I'm tired of this collective feeling of entitlement, of unfailing bullheadedness and especially of the feeling of complacency. With spiraling gas and food costs, it astounds me that more people aren't opening their eyes to the bigger picture.
