Randomness

>> I had a dream last night that at the nightclub I was being toyed with by this Asian couple. The seme noted I was checking out his uke and because he was the evil type, he demanded his uke service me. In the process, the uke got a huge gash on his back rubbing up against an exposed piece of metal or something in the tight confines of the back room or booth or something. While I'm putting pressure on the guy's wound asking for someone to call 911, the seme punches me in the face knocking me out thinking that I'd done him harm. It was rather anime-like to be sure.

>> I keep losing my PRO status in Wii Bowling in the Heretic League. I keep bouncing around 1000 and it's frustrating. The game is already hard enough playing left handed with right handed settings. Not to mention the fact the Wii box is about 4 feet to the right of the television really screwing up your orientation.

>> Finally for now, didn't get to see Elf yesterday. We called off our going to WETbar since it was going to be 25 dollars. Tonight is DJ Phil B. from San Fran. It starts early (9pm) and Kaze and Tat will be there. Hopefully it'll be a good time. I could use some fun rather than going through the motions.

Go to fucking sleep!

Teenagers often get as little as four hours of sleep a night because they secretly play video games or watch TV until the early hours.

One in three secondary school pupils survives on short bursts of "junk sleep" and turns up exhausted for lessons the next day, according to a survey.

The Sleep Council warned that its results showed parents were being too lenient compared to previous generations by failing to impose a strict "lights out".

The report said sleep was a major problem for teenagers as many fail to get the eight or nine hours of highquality rest recommended.

Most blame computers or television for keeping them up but a significant number also lie awake worrying about relationships and exams.

Experts have linked poor-quality sleep with weight gain and under performance at school.

There is also evidence that a lack of sleep can increase cravings for sugary and high-fat foods.

Ninety-nine per cent of teenagers surveyed said they had a TV, music system or phone in their bedroom while two-thirds claimed to have all three.

More than half of boys aged 12 to 14 also had a games console in their room.

A fifth of boys in this age group admitted their quality of sleep was affected by leaving the TV or computer switched on.

Parents were also warned that having friends to stay for "sleepovers" on school nights increased the risk of children missing out on proper rest.

The Sleep Council, which promotes the importance of a good night's rest to health, also found that 30 per cent of teenagers were getting only four to seven hours sleep on a school night.

Almost a quarter said they fell asleep more than once a week while watching the TV, listening to music or with other electrical items running.

But only one in ten said they gave much thought to the quality of their sleep, despite 40 per cent admitting they generally felt tired in the day.

This rose to 50 per cent among girls aged 15 and 16.

At weekends, 9 per cent of boys aged 15 and 16 said they had less than four hours sleep.

More than half said they often lie awake worrying about problems such as exams or relationships.

Dr Chris Idzikowski, from the Edinburgh Sleep Centre, said: "I'm staggered that so few teenagers make the link between getting enough good sleep and how they feel in the day.

"Teenagers need to wake up to the fact that to feel well, perform well and look well, they need to do something.

"This is an incredibly worrying trend. What we are seeing is the emergence of 'junk sleep' - sleep that is of neither the length nor quality to feed the brain with the rest it needs to perform properly at school."

Dr Idzikowski also blamed parents for being too lenient and allowing teenagers to stay at each other's homes on school nights.

"For sleepover, it would be more accurate to say 'wakeover'," he said.

"Parents these days aren't necessarily as strict as they once were with the lights-out policy.

"And with so many distractions, the amount of sleep achieved when at friends has to be highly questionable."

Almost a quarter of teenage girls said they slept over with friends once a week or more and a fifth of boys said the same.

Sexy Dreams

(HealthDay News) -- If your dreams are hot enough to burn the sheets, you've got company.

A new Canadian survey, apparently the first of its kind in four decades, reports that 8 percent of dreams swirl around sexual situations.

Men are much more likely to have fantasies about sex with imaginary people, while women prefer current or past sexual partners and celebrities.

Women, meanwhile, report about as many sex dreams as men, a sharp contrast with previous research from the 1960s. "Men used to report many more sex dreams, twice as many as women, and we don't find that difference anymore," said study author Antonio Zadra, an associate professor of psychology at the University of Montreal. "Either women are having them more, or they're more likely to report them. Either way, it's interesting."

According to Zadra, researchers have devoted very little attention to the study of sex dreams, even though they are extremely common.

In his study, Zadra looked at surveys of 109 women and 64 men who compiled diaries of their dreams for as long as a month. The total number of dreams topped 3,500.

The Canadian participants, aged 20-89, responded to advertisements about the survey. Researchers didn't gather data about their sexual orientations.

Zadra was to report his findings Thursday at the Associated Professional Sleep Societies annual meeting, in Minneapolis.

Sex dreams were occasionally productive: Four percent of sex dreams among both men and women resulted in orgasms. Both genders were most likely to dream about sexual intercourse, followed by sexual propositions -- such as flirting -- and kissing, fantasies and masturbation.

In women, a whopping 18 percent of sex dreams involved unwanted sex; the number was 5 percent among the men.

Fantasies about celebrities made up 9 percent of sex dreams among women and 5 percent among men.

Men were much more likely to dream about having sex with more than one person. However, none of the men reported dreams about intercourse in which their partner had an orgasm; 4 percent of women's dreams featured a partner having an orgasm.

"There's a stereotype that many men only think about themselves. At least in the dream scenarios, that appears to be the case," Zadra said.

Still, there might be another explanation. "It could be it's more difficult in REM sleep to attribute these kinds of affects and emotions to another character," Zadra said. "Maybe it's easier for women."

Indeed, it's difficult for people to take part in some activities -- like reading -- during dreams, and powers of judgment often don't exist, Zadra said. He suspects this may be because part of the brain slumbers during dreaming.

People, meanwhile, weren't the only subjects of sexual fantasies. One woman reported being aroused by a giant plant which she found to be "extremely erotic," Zadra said.

Despite Freudian analysis and countless books about dream analysis, dreams remain a big mystery. Still, specialists figure that if you dream about a topic, it's something that occupies your waking thoughts too, Zadra said.

"If the sex dreams tend to involved unknown or fantasy characters, it is probably a reflection of your waking state, that your desires and fantasies are with strangers," Zadra said.

From a purely physical perspective, dreams reflect an "activated brain state" in which the brain gobbles up oxygen, blood and glucose, said Dr. Carlos Schenck, a sleep researcher and associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Minnesota Medical School.

In terms of subject matter, he agrees with Zadra. "Dreams often reflect our daily life activities, concerns and fantasies," said Schenck, author of Sleep: The Mysteries, the Problems and the Solutions. "So, sex dreams are part of that picture."

"Depression... Low pressure." -- Junior Jack

I had a dream last night (the second night in a row of what could be considered nightmare-like) that Elf was more like he was when I first met him. Considerably more dark and perhaps evil. He and his friend Elody were trying to kill me by trapping my house and yard. There were explosives and guns, but in the end, it was a hand to hand fight which I was stabbed.

Suffice to say, it has not improved my state of mind.

UPDATE: Elf called just now. We're going to try and hang out some tonight. I'd hate to think that everything is related to him. That's just horrible. But it is reasonable to understand having been disassociated with someone so important to me for pretty much a month can have additional bad effects overall.

UPDATE 2: I've decided to change when we hang out to Friday afternoon. I told him that I wanna spend some quality time with him since it'd been about a month. Maybe that's what my problem actually is -- not taking control like a good seme should. (I mean about everything, not just this.)
