What's the #1 reason why you go (or would go) to a Convention?
Show me the dealers room!
There are guests I must worship!
Gaming. Roleplay, tabletop, DDR whatever.
Watch AMVs or videos of some kind.
OMG, this panel is specifically for ME!
I am an artist. It is my destiny.
Dances. PLUR PLUR PLUR PLUR
I'm assured I will get laid.
My friends are all going. We're sharing a room!
I would never go to a Convention. I hate you all.

*squeals like a little school girl* DJ Sean Mac came to my site

It's too bad it was to respond to my previous post calling their Pride set "marginal". I always tend to get myself in trouble with that word. (AWA Yaoi After Dark two years ago, anyone?)

Anyway, Sean Mac totally nailed it on the head when he said that diva vocal pop music was all the crowd seemed to be enjoying that evening. Rather unusual since they were doing the *afterhours* portion of the proceedings which typically should feature more hard house, deep satisfying tunes.

So, I need to reiterate: DJ Duo Yoshi Mac are really good! They, just like many of the DJs over the Pride Weekend, were forced to play it safe due to the crowds. Which were huge to be sure. Hopefully at their next event, we can pull together an equally huge crowd that is more willing to go on the highly amazing musical adventure DJ Yoshi Mac is more than capable of taking them on.

All Proud Out.

Considering I go out pretty much every weekend, Pride Weekend for me was just more. More nights. More people. More everything. Including more nothing, as in, I still managed to not get any.

I was offered, but the guy who did was none to my liking despite us having some things in common. He just didn't have the looks I'd need to appreciate making the beast with two backs with.

As for my own pursuits, I managed to drive a guy that I've known for a few months home, and nothing happened there either. He's taller than I, short short blond cropped hair, and is a few years older, yet looks a few years younger. And though we're kissing friends, that's where we still remain.

Still, the extended weekend wasn't too bad of a bust. I spent just shy of what I expected thanks partially to Kaze and Tat being so generous as well as managing to sweet talk my way on The Bodyshop's guest list. To bad DJ Duo Yoshi Mac put on a marginal set. In fact, all the DJs seemed to be taking no chances with their oversized crowds.

I have one more day off, tomorrow, before I go back to work bright and early Tuesday morning. And I think that's just fine. I need to get my finances boosted back to smoother levels anyway.

As for updates on the site: Provided thunderstorms don't strike yet again tomorrow, I'll be back to posting a handful of shotalicious goodies then.

Ah yes, one more bit of information: Elf's housewarming party on Thursday went down as actually one of the highlights of the whole weekend. While I was surrounded by breeders, this fag actually took it in stride and had a good time even when I wasn't following my favorite trap around like a lost puppy.

Happy Pride to you all whenever your area celebrates such. And honestly, be proud year round!

UPDATED: YouTube is going to keep trying to take it down. I'll repost if I can. Just leave a comment if it's gone. It truly is the funniest thing I've seen in a long long time.

Get Busy Child

The Crystal Method roared into WETbar's DJ booth and took the mostly rolling and mixed-sexual orientation crowd by storm. With a hard trance ferocity, they rocked their set without giving the people gathered much time to collect their breath. While they only played 3 of their own songs (that I could recognize through the heavy layering and improved remixing), I don't think anyone went home disappointed.

Well, except one guy that I was with.

He is older, has shoulder length long hair, and is best described as looking like a rock musician -- except he actually installs audio/visual equipment for business and residence.

I'd seen him a long time ago at Heretic, but he'd been going mostly to Blake's and WETbar lately and they had been treating him quite well after he installed some new equipment for them.

So this got us into VIP which as I think I've stated before really isn't all that amazing. But I guess it's just the allure of something the great unwashed can't get into that makes it all so much better, right?

So anyway, this guy, he's hot, handsome, really into me. Too much into me, actually and that becomes off putting. I let him know rather quickly that his aggressiveness is too much for me. I try to go more on the attack with little success. And though I had a moderately good time making out with him and bumping uglies on the dance floor to what should be Barack Obama's theme song for the younger set (Keep Hope Alive), I just couldn't go home with him.

I turned him down.

Maybe in the end that my way of finally overpowering an extremely dominate seme. But I started to think about how it wasn't going to work out anyway. While I can please some as uke, I'm not especially good at the role in the bed. While it's always great to do things out your ordinary comfort zone, I didn't think it would lead to anything really all that pleasant. At least not for me.

And you know NOT going home with him STILL was quite unpleasant as WETbar and Blake's shuttle stopped running after I was to be the only one needing to ride it back to my car. They actually told me to get back off the bus, they were shutting it down. I complained. I knocked on the closed WETbar door and complained some more to the bartender who opened it. And after walking the 8 blocks back to my car at 3:30 in the morning, after driving back home, I pulled up their website to complain to them some more. They're the assholes that should have been fucked last night.

It seriously makes me reconsider going to see Hybrid in 2 weeks and Deep Dish in 4.
VIP... ha! The Heretic wouldn't have treated me that way.

It's about time Iran did something right.

Iran said it plans to launch a crackdown on rap music, complaining that the words used by rap artists were "obscene", the state IRNA news agency reported Thursday.

"There is nothing wrong with this type of music in itself," the official for evaluation of music at the Culture and Islamic Guidance Ministry, Mohammad Dashtgoli, was quoted as saying.

"But due to the use of obscene words by its singers this music has been categorised as illegal," he said.

"In coordination with the police, illegal studios producing this type of music will be sealed and the singers in this genre will be confronted," he said.

Dashtgoli said a large number of illegal rap singers have been already identified.

The Islamic republic's hardline officials have repeatedly complained about a "cultural invasion" by "decadent" western music which they believe diminishes Islamic values.

The culture ministry official expressed his frustration that rap artists were finding low-cost ways to publish their music on the Internet. "We should find a solution for this."

Rap music has become increasingly popular amongst young urban males in Tehran, with explicit lyrics taking in social, political and sexual themes.

Producing albums and holding concerts in Iran requires official permission from the culture ministry and, needless to say, rap music is an underground phenomenon in the Islamic republic.

Nevertheless, rap albums are widely available on the black market with artists drawing inspiration from the Persian-language rap of the Iranian diaspora based in Los Angeles.

Iran is currently in the midst of its most severe moral crackdown in years, which has seen thousands of women warned for slack dressing, several bootleg music stores shut and "decadent" mixed-sex parties raided.

Conservatives have applauded the crackdown as a bold move to promote virtue but some moderates have questioned the value of the drive at a time when Iran's economic problems are hitting the poor hard.

Anyone fauning for some pointed ears?

"A newfangled extravagance is spreading amongst the music-lover youngsters of New York, which, after invading America, is sure to conquer the whole world. Ears becoming pointed as a result of plastic surgery not only enhance the attractiveness of the face, but also improve the experience of listening to music."

Get some plastic surgery!

(Ed note: I can't decide if this is way hot or way scary. Whichever the case, I'm sure someone will note that it may be illogical.)

Not that interested.

LAS VEGAS — Somewhere, Kevin Federline is laughing. An out-of-shape, out-of-touch Britney Spears delivered what was destined to be the most talked about performance of the MTV Video Music Awards — but for all the wrong reasons.

Kicking off the show Sunday night with her new single, "Gimme More," Spears looked bleary and unprepared, much like her recent tabloid exploits on the streets of Los Angeles. She walked through her dance moves with little enthusiasm. She appeared to have forgotten the art of lip-synching. And, perhaps most unforgivable given her once-taut frame, she looked embarrassingly out of shape.

Even the celebrity-studded audience seemed bewildered. 50 Cent looked at Spears with a confused look on his face; Diddy, her new best friend, was expressionless.

Some comeback. Breathlessly hyped by MTV as the evening's most anticipated performance, it became the most shockingly bad of the night. Jive Records might want to push back that Nov. 13 album release date.

The VMAs had better luck with their own reinvention on Sunday. After suffering poor reviews and a decline in ratings over the last few years, MTV moved the show to Las Vegas' Palms Casino, shortened the show from three hours to two, and changed the show's setup to focus more on performances than awards. Justin Timberlake and Timbaland, Kanye West, Fall Out Boy and the Foo Fighters each hosted separate suite parties, where much of the show's performances were held.

Thankfully, after Spears' dismal start and an awkward, off-color intro by comedian Sarah Silverman, the show rebounded with several exciting performances. (There was even more drama in the audience: an off-camera fight broke out between Pamela Anderson exes Kid Rock and Tommy Lee, leading Diddy to remark: "It's not just the hip-hop artists that sometimes have a problem.")

Timberlake's suite was packed with revelers, alcohol and eight lingerie-clad stripper types on raised platforms. Before he accepted the Quadruple Threat of the Year award at his suite, the DJ summoned the partygoers to watch the monitor and go crazy if Timberlake won.

He did, they did, and Timberlake said: "I want to challenge MTV to play more videos!" Then he was whisked away by bodyguards and disappeared.

Timberlake was the night's big winner, with four trophies. After accepting the award for Male Artist of the Year, he jabbed at MTV again: "We don't want to see the Simpsons on reality television" — apparently he's not a fan of either Jessica or Ashlee's MTV shows.

Meanwhile, Rihanna won the coveted Video of the Year for her metallically inspired "Umbrella," and Monster Single of the Year for her ubiquitous hit "Umbrella," and Beyonce and Shakira won Most Earthshattering Collaboration for "Beautiful Liar." Beyonce's shimmering gold dress barely contained her top; immediately after she picked up her trophy, she asked an assistant backstage to help fix her dress, apparently to prevent a wardrobe malfunction.

Other performers were appearing on the show's main stage, in front of an industry-only audience seated at tables, like at the Golden Globes. Chris Brown gave one of the evening's most extravagant performances — a dance-centric, eye-popping spectacle that channeled Michael Jackson, right down to a brief "Billie Jean" imitation.

Alicia Keys had the evening's most rousing performance, debuting her new song "No One" and then an inspired, choir-backed cover of George Michael's "Freedom."

While performances like Keys and Spears were delivered on the main stage, others were delivered in snippets: Akon crooned a bit of his "Smack That" before an award was announced, while the cameras zoomed in on performances from Fall Out Boy and the Foo Fighters mid-performance in their suites, giving viewers the sense that they had happened upon an intimate concert. Cee-Lo delivered a rocking version of Prince's naughty classic "Darling Nikki" in the smoky Foo Fighters suite (where a beer bong was in operation as Dave Grohl danced, sang Cure songs, played air drums and posed for snapshots); Soulja Boy was showing Kanye West his "Crank That" dance in West's suite.

Though the suites appeared to be chaotic parties, the MTV-cast revelers were carefully organized and strategically placed for the cameras. In another suite, the MC encouraged everyone to drink and keep the energy up.

Choreographed or not, Timberlake and Timbaland's joint suite looked like the most exciting — T.I., buffeted by pole dancers, delivered a rousing version of "Big Things Poppin'" while 50 Cent stopped by to perform "Ayo Technology" with Timberlake and Timbaland.

Not to be outdone, T-Pain and West danced high atop Las Vegas in one of the Palms' balcony suites as they celebrated "The Good Life." And Lil Wayne, doing double duty in the Fall Out Boy suite after opening the pre-show with Nicole Scherzinger, was particularly animated.

But the TV audience never got full views of those shows, though MTV promised viewers more via its Web site and other "remixed" versions of the show. That might have been the purpose: to whet appetites for repeat viewings by promising glimpses of what they missed during the traditional broadcast. And unlike in recent years, there was plenty reason to come back for more.

You know how I know you're gay...

A Washington man's karaoke performance of a Coldplay song apparently triggered a female bar patron to attack him early yesterday at a Seattle bar. According to a Seattle Police Department report, Lindsey Lawrence, 21, assaulted the unnamed victim while he was performing with "two other subjects" at Changes Tavern, where patrons sing karaoke Wednesday and Thursday night from 9 PM until 1 AM.

When the assault victim launched into Coldplay's "Yellow," Lawrence allegedly told the man that his "singing sucked" and that the song "fucking sucked." She then grabbed at the man's microphone and "pushed him and punched him in order to get him to stop singing," cops reported. When employees escorted Lawrence from the bar, she "became very violent" and struck several other people (and was hostile towards police and fire department medics who responded to the scene).

Lawrence was booked into the Seattle Correctional Facility, where she is currently being held on an investigation of assault.

It is unclear why Coldplay's music apparently made Lawrence snap, though a famous June 2005 New York Times appraisal by Jon Pareles may offer an insight. The critic called the British group "the most insufferable band of the decade," adding that, "the lyrics can make me wish I didn't understand English."

LOL. Islam.

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iranian police detained more than 200 people and seized alcohol and drugs in a raid on a "satanic" underground rock concert, media in the conservative Islamic state reported on Saturday.

Iran, which has launched an annual summer crackdown on "immoral behavior", bans alcohol, narcotics and parties with unrelated men and women dancing, drinking and mixing. Western popular music is frowned upon.

The police operation took place on Wednesday night in the town of Karaj near the capital Tehran, at an event with local disc jockeys, rock and rap groups performing, the media said.

"Most of those arrested are wealthy young people ... who came to this party with the goal of attending a provocative, satanic concert," daily Tehran-e Emrouz quoted a senior police official, Reza Zarei, as saying.

Karaj's public prosecutor, Ali Farhadi, said invitations had been sent out via the Internet and that people from Britain and Sweden were among those held. Zarei suggested they were expatriate Iranians visiting the country.

Farhadi said 150 bottles of alcoholic drinks, 800 "obscene" CDs and different kinds of drugs had been confiscated by police, as well as "inappropriate" dresses that those behind the event were giving to female guests as gifts.

"Some 230 people who attended a rock party in Karaj were identified and arrested," Farhadi said on the Web site of Iran's state broadcaster.

He said 20 video cameras had also been seized and that the organizers had planned to blackmail girls after filming "inappropriate and obscene" videos of them.

Under sharia, Islamic law, imposed after Iran's 1979 revolution, women are obliged to cover their hair and wear long, loose clothing to disguise their figures and protect their modesty. Violators can receive lashes, fines or imprisonment.

A clockwork depression

I always feel pretty low the day after spending hours with Elf. This isn't exactly new, of course. But I tell you, my heart seems to ache just a bit more with every passing occation. And I can't even begin to tell you how my mind seemingly uncontrollably is trending towards very dark thoughts towards things I want to do to him.

Placebo, "Blind"

If I could tear you from the ceiling,
And guarantee a source divine,
Rid you off possessions fleeting,
Remain your funny valentine.

Don't go and leave me,
And please don't drive me blind,
Don't go and leave me,
And please don't drive me blind.

If I could tear you from the ceiling,
I know the best have tried,
I'd fill your every breath with meaning,
And find a place we both could hide.

Don't go and leave me,
And please don't drive me blind,
Don't go and leave me,
And please don't drive me blind.

You don't believe me, but you do this every time,
Please don't drive me blind.
Please don't drive me blind..

I know we're broken,
I know we're broken,
I know we're broken.

If I could tear you from the ceiling,
I'd freeze us both in time,
Find a brand new way of seeing..
Your eyes forever glued to mine.

Don't go and leave me,
And please don't drive me blind,
Don't go and leave me,
And please don't drive me blind.
Don't go and leave me,
And please don't drive me blind,
Don't go and leave me,
And please don't drive me blind.

I know I broke it,
I know I broke it,
I know I broke it,
I know I broke it.
